| dc.description.abstract | It is an honor and a profound exercise in intellectual reflection to present this collective compendium, a work that not only captures the pulse of contemporary research in our region but also dares to navigate the blurred boundaries where cutting-edge technology, territory, and the human condition intertwine in ways that are inherently complex. As a researcher who has dedicated my academic career to unraveling the subtle threads of social change and the dynamics of knowledge, I find in this book an indispensable roadmap for understanding the structural transformations of our time. The richness of this compilation lies in its transdisciplinary perspective, an approach that embraces the analytical rigor of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and mathematical models without ever losing sight of the ethical sensitivity demanded by contexts of exclusion, historical memory, and the tireless pursuit of cognitive justice. The first major thread running through this conceptual fabric confronts us directly with the disruption caused by algorithms and digitization in classrooms and higher education institutions. We find ourselves at a turning point where traditional pedagogical notions prove insufficient to address the complexity of contemporary interactions; it is here that the construction of new categories such as “distant learning” and “distant writing” comes into play, notions that demystify the false dichotomy between activity and passivity by selectively delegating cognitive effort to machines. This algorithmic mediation is clearly evident when evaluating the trajectories of programming students and their gradual transition from an initial high level of technical dependence in mobile environments toward a reflective and metacognitive autonomy capable of self-managing error. Similarly, in the field of social communication, online journalism workshops incorporate simulated interviews through interfaces operated by language models—an experimental practice that reveals students’ ability to structure clear guidelines by formulating specific instructions, while also exposing the intrinsic biases of these devices. Complementarily, quantitative research based on cross-sectional designs provides us with a rigorous diagnosis of the adoption of these technological tools in medium-sized urban settings, confirming the high willingness of school stakeholders to receive specialized training in the face of evident infrastructure asymmetries. Faced with this imperative for innovation, the analytical examination in this book warns us against uncritical enthusiasm; drawing on Andrew Feenberg’s critical theory of technology, it deconstructs the normative framework of digital pedagogical knowledge and denounces the excessive use of notions of efficiency or mere safe usage, reminding us that a theoretical understanding of the political and socioeconomic underpinnings of technology must necessarily precede its instrumental application in the classroom. | |
